JASPER, Tenn. (AP) - A remote Marion County community has earned special recognition for its wildfire preparations.

According to the Tennessee Department of Agriculture, there is only one road out of Mullins Cove, which has about 22 miles of heavily forested area.

The community worked with the Division of Forestry and the local volunteer fire department to assess the wildfire hazard and develop a community protection plan. The effort earned recognition from Firewise USA , a program of the National Fire Protection Association.

On Dec. 13, officials from Forestry will present Mullins Cove with a commemorative plaque and Firewise USA street signs.
