Artist Bio
Pamela Brown Broockman - pronounced Brock-man
I have been a self-taught, professional artist since the late 70's when I worked with my twin sister, Pat Shelton, under the pen-name "the Brown Twins." At that time, inspired by fantasy artist's such as Boris, Frank Frazetta, The Brothers Hildebrandt, and Donald Roller Wilson, I began a lucrative career that involved airbrushed paintings on vans, show cars and motorcycle tanks. In the meantime I worked in acrylics and oils doing everything from realism to fine art portraiture, all the while learning to perfect my skills.
Although my style varies, 'fantasy art ' has always been first and foremost my favorite art genre. My subjects are derived from mythology, religion and childhood inspirations and are often described as being whimsical, provocative and sometimes controversial. I personally consider my talent a "gift from God" and I am grateful for the joy it brings to my life and to others.
Over the years I've garnered numerous awards and honors, and I have paintings all over the U.S. and abroad; including in private collections of celebrities such as John Cougar Mellancamp and Sissy Spacek. I've been represented by the prestigious Seaside Art Gallery in Nags Head, N.C. for the past 13 years and I am an active member of Fine Arts Blount in Blount County TN and the Arts & Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville TN. In addition to painting, I have taught art from elementary to college level in private lessons and through Government funded Artist's in Residence programs.
A native of kentucky, I have resided with my husband Pete, and daughter Ashley in east Tennessee for the past 14 years. I have a grown son, Joseph Morris, from a previous marriage who is also an artist, and a grandaughter, Bonnie, who also shows great potential as an artist. My present art career consists mostly of commissioned portraits, residential and commercial murals, book illustrations. custom design work and contemporary fantasy fine art.
